We have seen consistent 60s, rain and no snow, Finally, in my neck of the woods...I'm declaring Spring. I love this time of year because everything is starting anew, the colors are vibrant, walking barefoot, digging in the dirt and Spring scents/smells (lilacs and fresh cut grass) are refreshing. Also, it's a great time to "spring clean" your skin care routine. When the seasons change, our skin tends to do the same. If you are dry in the winter, you may see combination skin in spring/summer months. Then throw in age and hormones and you are wondering what the heck is going on.. Balancing your skin's oil production is important, no matter what time of year. To get rid of dry and flaky skin and make it summer ready, try body brushing or exfoliating a few times a week. Then use a light body oil or moisturizer to keep skin conditioned and smooth. No matter your skin type, hydrating and moisturizing is still key to great skin.

Spring is a great time to look at your skin care/cosmetic supply and consider the following:
  • throw out expired products,
  • consider lighter/brighter cosmetics,
  • clean makeup brushes (try to clean every couple of weeks) and
  • start using lighter oils/moisturizers.

We know sun damages and ages skin. Sunscreen can be a touchy subject but my stance is all in moderation because we have long winters and I want the Vitamin D. Use nontoxic sunscreen when possible or cover up using hats, sunglasses and light clothing. Also, you can research making your own sunscreen and foods to eat that help provide sun protection.

If you are still experiencing skin issues, consider these five common skin care mistakes:
  1. going to bed without removing your makeup,
  2. using too many different skin care brands at once and please check the ingredients,
  3. not allowing enough time for your skin to adjust to a new skin care regimen,
  4. making poor food choices, sensitivities to food and certain ingredients can cause skin problems and
  5. exfoliating excessively.
Do you have any skin care "spring cleaning" tips?
