One of the greatest joys in owning a small business has been the friendships I have made along the way. Happenstance, circumstance, fate, luck, destiny, blessing, written in the stars, stumbling upon – call it as you will, but it has been the best part of Simply Rustic that I never expected. ser•en•dip•i•ty 1. an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident. 2. good fortune; luck. www.dictionary.com I have told my husband that we need to travel cross country so I could actually meet many of you. Your stories and passion have helped inspire and shape Simply Rustic in so many ways. Having common interests - living simply, naturally, safely and eco-friendly and/or a common connection – has touched me in extraordinary ways. I would like to share one of those stories. A little over a year ago, one of those customers, Danille (Rice) Doumas ordered from Simply Rustic. Then I received this email from her: “I really love and enjoy your products! I have found that my nails have never been as strong as they are now due to your body butters. I got to thinking that if the product worked so well on my nails, I would add a little bit to the tips of my hair. My hair has also grown in strength! You might consider some sort of leave-in hair conditioner to expand your product line. Trust me, the body butter works in the hair! Finding your products and watching them transform my skin, hair, and nails came at the best time. I will be getting married in September of this year! I want to personally thank you; keep up the healthy alternative to skin care!” She had me hooked, the compliment was amazing but she was getting married so I had to find out details without seeming too nosy. A friendship began and we have had many great conversations. We have a lot in common. Danille is genuine, compassionate and has a lot of positive energy. Born and raised in California, she had always romanticized about New York City. As serendipity worked its magic in her life, she met Jayson, who is originally from New York. It was not much longer after her initial email that I received their wedding invitation. What I wouldn’t have done to be able to attend. “In June 2010, a boy met a girl on the elevator of City Hall. Just one boy and one girl and an invitation to coffee. After that encounter he was a goner. Discovering they lived just one freeway exit apart they became best friends and partners in crime. They went on lots of roller coasters. They fell in love with traveling. They discovered inspiration in so many things...food, friends, movies, music, blue skies. He proposed at Disney World – after asking her 6 feet 5 inch tall father for her hand in marriage. They celebrated. They got married.” An understatement…their wedding was magical…it has been an honor to be part of this special time in Danille’s life.
Thank You Danille for sharing your story! For those of you I have had the pleasure of getting to know beyond Simply Rustic, and for those of you I would be happy to get to know better, I would like to add a new chapter to Simply Rustic.
